York Hall Bethnal Green will set the perfect scene for a good domestic dust up when former beijing olympian Billy Joe Saunders defends his British and Commonwealth Middleweight titles against Matthew Hall on Thursday March 21st.
Matthew Hall is a former commonwealth light-middleweight champion in 2009 and has fought for for a european title in his 31 fight career. He is strong forward, front foot fighter who will look to pressurise from the first bell. He has bags of courage and fight but has suffered 4 losses in his last 6 bouts and any aspiring world champion cannot afford to lose to a fighter of his domestic calibre.
Saunders is undefeated and has shown plenty of power thus far. He is the slicker, sharper boxer who will have to stick to his strengths and execute a good gameplan in order to look good against a seasoned and tough professional. I think Saunders has shown enough so far to say that he has the potential to go a lot higher than British level but depite his bright prospects he definitely cannot afford to be looking past a boxer like Hall. The Grandson of a former bareknuckle boxing champion, the gypsy traveller seems to have fighting in his blood and I expect him to come through this bout unscathed with a 17th win on his record although I doubt that it will be an early nights work.
