Manchester United v Swansea
Manchester United go into their second home match in a week against a Newcastle side fresh from a 3-0 whipping by Swansea.
Both these sides suffered midweek setbacks after relatively good runs of form. Newcastle go into the game sat two places higher than their opponents albeit just a point ahead.
The form can be read in multiple ways, with strong arguments for both sides to register a win in this match. Both have registered just one defeat in their last five premier league outings. Manchester United two draws, two wins and the midweek defeat to Everton, meanwhile Newcastle perhaps with the more impressive four straight wins before the emphatic shock 3-0 defeat to Swansea.
Manchester United at home are always a difficult side to oppose and coupled with the fact that Newcastle are less impressive on their travels than on home soil you can see the reasoning behind the ½ on offer for the home win. However, 1/2 for the home win seems too short for a side sat 9th in the table, especially given that there is a greatly decreased fear factor since Ferguson’s departure as manager.
Interestingly the bookies have taken Manchester United as strong favourites to win this one. Perhaps the value is in backing Newcastle in the handicap market. If the 3-0 capitulation to Swansea was a one off then 4/7 with Ladbrokes for Newcastle to win +2 could be worth a punt.
Crystal Palace v Cardiff
Crystal Palace take on Cardiff in a game both sides will want to take maximum points from. Palace go into this game looking for back to back victories and have had a revival since the arrival of Tony Pulis.
Palace have lost just once in their last four outings whilst Cardiff registered two draws and two defeats coming into this game. In a relegation crunch game such as this form can go out the window. Crystal Palace go into the game as favourites. Cardiff look worth a shot at 10/11 draw no bet in this one.
