A repeat of last years French Open Final is expected by the bookies. Rafael Nadal has been installed as odds on favourite going into this years French Open with losing finalist Novak Djokovic second favourite….
The Spaniard has a stunning record in this competition. Seven times champion Nadal clearly takes to Roland Garros, however he has been much less dominant since recovering from his long injury lay off. Given that he is odds on with many bookies it’s hard to see any value. If fit he’ll certainly be one to beat but with the prices currently on offer he is surely much too short to back with any certainty.
Murray is a best price of 14/1 with Betfair. A price that pending injury will surely shorten. Murray has been in sensational form and has a pretty handy record at Roland Garros. The Scot has reached the semi-final in 2011 and the quarter final in 2012. Given the level he has been playing at he seems a great value pick at the current prices around.
Murrays record at Roland Garros…
2005 – Unplaced
2006 – 1st Round
2007 – Unplaced
2008 – 3rd Round
2009 – Quarter Final
2010 – 4th Round
2011 – Semi Final
2012 – Quarter Final
Novak Djokovic always features in slams and you wouldn’t expect anything different here. He hasn’t been at the sensational heights of last year however if either he or Nadal don’t scoop the prize many will be more than suprised.
What about an upset?
David Ferrer – The Spaniard is consistent and although he almost certainly won’t win he’s one who could feature in the latter stages of the tournament.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga – Home crowd advantage might provide Tsonga with the inspiration to provide a miracle run to reach the final. 130/1 might be worth a microscopic punt.
Tip: Back Murray Each Way 14/1
Tip: Back Ferrer Each Way 30/1
