Bellew v Chilemba

boxingposterTony ‘the Bomber’ Bellew takes on Isaac Chilemba in a final eliminator for the WBC light heavyweight title at the top of a stacked bill at the Liverpool Echo on Saturday 30th March.

The scouser is predicting a ‘nasty, hard and horrible fight’ so it’s just as well the ‘Bomber’ has an abundance of those three characteristics in his locker when he steps inside a ring. Although he gained a reputation for being something of a loose canon after his pre- fight antics against WBO champion Nathan Cleverley, the devout Evertonian has proven there is more to his boxing than his ring name suggests. He has shown controlled aggression inside the ropes and good technical skill to systematically dismantle the likes of McIntosh, Miranda and Bolonti. The Bomber is a thinking fighter that has been improving all the time under Hearn’ stewardship and has established a highly effective left jab and will want to execute another astute performance against Chilemba.

Although both fighters have seen the canvas in their careers they have demonstrated the ability to recover and win the fights so I expect this one to go the distance and Bellews work rate, intensity and accuracy should give him the edge and see him to a unanimous or majority points decision. He will be backed by a highly charged and vociferous home support which could well have an effect as seen with the likes of stablemate Carl Froch, in his destruction of Bute in front of the Nottingham crowd.
